Regular/Classic Style Metal Roof (Barn Type) - With The Horizontal Roof
The Regular Style metal structure is our most affordable option in Texas and the design most people picture when they think of a metal metal structure. The roof is built on bent bows with rounded, rolled corners where the roof meets the legs, and the roof panels run horizontally, parallel to the sides, so rain drains off the front and back of the structure. Trusses tie the bows together for strength, and the whole frame is galvanized steel.
In Texas the Regular Style works best where the weather is drier and rain comes in storms rather than all week long, which covers most of West and North Texas, around Lubbock, Amarillo, Midland, Odessa, Abilene, San Angelo, and Wichita Falls, and anywhere the budget matters more than looks. It is a good fit for covering vehicles, equipment, and storage. It can be built in every width we offer, with the same leg-height, side-panel, and color options as the other styles, and it is the quickest metal structure to install.
Boxed Eave Style Metal Roof (A-Frame) - With The Horizontal Roof
The Boxed Eave metal structure has the A-frame roofline that matches most Texas homes and shops, with a squared, boxed corner where the roof meets the legs instead of a rounded one. Like the Regular Style, its roof panels run horizontally, parallel to the sides, so rain drains off the front and back, and it is built on the same galvanized steel frame. The difference is almost entirely in appearance, which is why it is the most common choice when the metal structure will sit next to the house.
Across the Dallas-Fort Worth suburbs, Austin and the Hill Country, San Antonio, and the Houston area, the Boxed Eave is the middle option: a traditional look for a little more than the Regular Style, without the full cost of a vertical roof. If you later decide you want the vertical roof, the Boxed Eave frame is the same one it is built on, so the upgrade is just the roof panels and purlins. It is a strong choice for covering vehicles, equipment, and storage.
Boxed Eave Style Metal Roof (A-Frame) - With The Vertical Roof
The Vertical Roof metal structure is our top-of-the-line style and the one we recommend for the Texas Gulf Coast, East Texas, and the hail belt across North Texas. It uses the same A-frame, boxed-eave shape, but the roof panels run vertically, from the ridge down to the eaves, so water, leaves, and pine straw run straight off instead of sitting on the roof. Extra purlins run lengthwise under the panels, which gives the roof more framing to attach to and makes the whole metal structure noticeably stiffer in high wind and under hail.
From Houston, Beaumont, Galveston, and Corpus Christi up the coast to Brownsville, through the Piney Woods around Tyler, Longview, Nacogdoches, and Lufkin, and across Dallas-Fort Worth, where spring hail and straight-line winds are a fact of life, the Vertical Roof is the right call. It is also the style we recommend for any metal structure longer than about 36 ft., because the longer the roof, the more a horizontal panel has to carry. Pair it with the 12-gauge frame and 26-gauge panel upgrades for coastal counties and it is the longest-lasting metal structure we sell, built for covering vehicles, equipment, and storage.
Single Slope Vertical Metal Roof
The Single Slope metal structure uses the vertical roof panels and purlins of our top style, but the roof pitches one direction instead of peaking in the middle. A 2/12 pitch is the most common, and several other pitches are available to match an existing roofline or add clearance. That lets it sit flush against a property line, a fence, a shop, or an existing barn, and drain all of its water to one side, away from whatever it is attached to. It can stand on its own or be built as an attached lean-to.
In Texas we see Single Slope metal structures on narrow lots in Houston, Dallas, and Austin, as lean-tos on ranch barns and shops from the Hill Country to the Panhandle, and against commercial buildings that need covered loading or parking along one wall. It keeps the strength and drainage of the vertical roof for covering vehicles, equipment, and storage, and because one side is taller than the other, it is a smart way to get extra clearance on one side without raising the whole structure.
