It uses the same A-frame, boxed-eave shape, but the roof panels run vertically, from the ridge down to the eaves, so water, leaves, and pine straw run straight off instead of sitting on the roof. Extra purlins run lengthwise under the panels, which gives the roof more framing to attach to and makes the whole carport noticeably stiffer in high wind.
In the Lowcountry around Charleston and Summerville, along the Grand Strand around Myrtle Beach and Conway, and across the Pee Dee around Florence, the Vertical Roof is the right call: South Carolina sees heavy summer storms and a hurricane season every year, and this roof handles both. It is also the style we recommend for any carport longer than about 36 ft., because the longer the roof, the more a horizontal panel has to carry. Pair it with the 12-gauge frame and 26-gauge panel upgrades for high-wind counties and it is the longest-lasting carport we sell, built for trucks, cars, boats on trailers, and campers.
Single Slope Vertical Roof Metal Carports
The Single Slope carport uses the vertical roof panels and purlins of our top style, but the roof pitches one direction instead of peaking in the middle. That lets it sit flush against a property line, a fence, a camp, or an existing garage or barn, and drain all of its water to one side, away from whatever it is attached to.
